5 Reasons To Visit Crosspointe Church

•No Golden Corral. We aren’t a buffet. We do only a few things and what we do will be done well, because we value quality over quantity.
•Fresh Beginning. Who doesn’t like a fresh beginning? Jesus said he would build His church and here we are with another fresh beginning of Jesus’ 2000 year old promise to build His church.
•People that actually want you at their church. We are praying that all sorts of people show up at CrossPointe, because we share the same mission that God the Father had when He sent Jesus to this earth: people.
•Worship that is for and about Jesus. We will provide an opportunity for you to worship Jesus. Also the heart of the leadership is for the worship experience to be about Jesus.
•Message about Jesus. Jesus. Yep, that’s pretty simple, but that’s all we have Jesus.

We would love to have you visit us @CrossPointe Church

Looney Family Update

Over the last several weeks my writing and tweeting has been nonexistent. This is largely due to the season of change that Kerri, I and the boys find ourselves in. We have been fairly busy with a ton of things.

.: Kerri :. Kerri is right in the middle of furthering her education. I really don’t know how she manages all that she does. It’s a testimony of her ability to balance things and I’m both proud and envious of this skill. Please remember her in your prayers as she jungles being a Christian, a wife, mother, pastor’s wife, and a school teacher.

.: Blake :. Blake just turned 6 years old in February and has grown so much in the last 6 months. Blake has put down the bat and glove and is trying soccer for the first time and he seems to be enjoying it. We’ve enjoyed watching him score a couple goals and run some of that energy off. Also, I think Blake has the heart of a priest and is very sensitive to the needs of others, which is why he’s convinced that every person that he sees walking on the side of the road is a homeless person and we need to give them money or food, because they don’t have home.

.: Caden :. Caden will be turning 4 years old in October, but until then he maintains his humorous disposition. The dude laughs frequently and has a temper like his mom… Okay, probably not her, but Caden is growing and will probably be recruited by the Jaguars(if they don’t pass him like Tebow).

.: Jeth :. The last 15-18 months God has really been changing my burden and the direction of ministry. This May would be 11 years in Student Ministry, but God began to change my burden to my own generation and God began to reveal that there would be a shift in the direction of who I would be ministering to you in the future.

In October 2011, God then began to lay out the picture of a broken temple in my quiet time in Zechariah that need to be repaired. Honestly, I really thought it would be a long time before I saw or heard anything from God, but in January 2012 that quiet time began to be a reality. A broken church had approached the leadership of FBCM about the possibility of taking them own and replanting the church in the direction and leadership of FBCM.

God affirmed it and here we are just a couple days away of officially launching CrossPointe Church. Our whole family is excited about this opportunity and excited serving as the Associate Pastor of the campus. I hope to share more about what God will be doing through the CrossPointe Church.

Ephesians 3.20 :. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Awkward Silence w/Teenagers?

If you have ever taught a small group then you have probably encountered some kind of weird and awkward silence. This is especially true when teaching teenagers. Now teenagers do speak fluent Christianese, which means they share the typical soft-serve answers. But the majority of the time they really don’t talk that much. This is highly frustrating for a teaching, because you want students to talk.

Several weeks ago during a staff devotion I was introduced to a teaching method that is utilized by international missionaries who are evangelizing. I talked with one of my friends about the method following the devotion and we were both convinced it could be a fruitful here in the states. Here’s it is and how it works:

  • Take the passage: 1 Corinthians 3:1-23 (I’ve picked this one, because of preaching tonight and will have my small groups doing the same thing.) With this many verses I suggest breaking it down in sections or possibly taking the section that you believe will provide best opportunity for discussion. Also consider your time constraints, if you only have 15-20 minutes, then you will have to choose a section.
  • Possible Passage Breakdown: 3:1-4 | 3:5-9 | 3:10-17 | 3:18-23 |
  • Read Passage: Read the passage to your students just one time and encourage them to listen carefully and to catch as many details as possible.
  • Questions/Discussion Time:
  • What did you like about tonight’s scripture passage?
  • What didn’t you like about tonight’s scripture passage?
  • What does this passage say about us as humans?
  • What does this passage say to us about God?
  • What does this passage say about you?
I really believe this provided great opportunities and takeaways for students when implementing these questions into your small groups.
